Hear the telephone effect before generating your menu
These two recordings use the same sentence, preset and synthesis settings. The first is the dry source. The second adds a 300 Hz high-pass and a 3,400 Hz low-pass to reduce the low and high frequency extremes. Listen for the change in vowel body and consonants at the same device volume.
Apply telephone filter is on by default in the generator above. Turn it off and render again to compare your own script. Both preview and download follow that choice, and Copy Link saves it. The filename ends in phone or dry so the two versions are easy to identify.

The Mike for Telephone preset selects a SAM voice recipe: Speed 86, Pitch 58, Mouth 95 and Throat 105. Those values change how the speech is synthesized. The filter is a separate processing step applied to the generated waveform; changing Mouth or Throat alone does not provide the same effect.
This is a telephone-style sound for a game, intercom scene or video. It does not reproduce the original Microsoft Mike engine, add line noise, or encode audio for a real telephone service. The export remains mono 22,050 Hz, 8-bit PCM WAV. If an IVR platform asks for 8 kHz mu-law or another codec, use its specified conversion process.
Keep menu choices clear through the filter
Start at the preset values and generate the shortest option first. If Press one for platform status feels rushed, increase Speed from 86 toward 96. A larger value makes SAM slower. Keep Pitch, Mouth and Throat unchanged while judging the pacing.
Spell menu digits as words. For an access code, write the intended spoken form explicitly: four oh four differs from four hundred four. If a name loses clarity through the filter, compare a phonetic rewrite against the dry version before changing the voice identity. The pronunciation guide provides a focused method for those tests.
Place pauses and check the complete sequence
Import the four clips into your editor or game and place the gaps there. Punctuation shapes a spoken phrase but does not set an exact pause in milliseconds. Test greeting, option one and option two as a sequence; a clear individual clip can still become hard to follow when the choices are too close together.
Keep a dry copy if you plan to add noise, music or reverb. Listen to the finished sequence on a small speaker and confirm that one and two remain distinguishable. For a real phone system, also verify the platform's required codec, sample rate and playback behavior; this page produces the creative source audio.
Which voice engine is used here?
This tool uses sam-js, a JavaScript port of Software Automatic Mouth. Microsoft Sam and Software Automatic Mouth are different speech systems. Labels such as Mike, Mary and RoboSoft identify this site's parameter presets; they do not load the original Microsoft or SAPI4 voice binaries.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an original Microsoft Mike telephone voice?
No. It is the site's SAM-based Mike for Telephone preset, not an original Microsoft engine or voice file.
How do I make the menu slower?
Increase Speed from 86 toward 96, then preview the whole prompt. Add exact pauses in your editor if timing matters.
Is telephone filtering included in the download?
Yes, when Apply telephone filter is checked. The same filter is used for preview and download. Turn it off to save the dry voice.
Can I upload this WAV directly to an IVR service?
Check that service's requirements first. This page exports 22,050 Hz, 8-bit mono PCM WAV; it does not export 8 kHz mu-law or guarantee compatibility with a phone platform.
Can I add phone static here?
The generator applies the selectable telephone filter. Add static, connection clicks or reverb on separate tracks in an editor.
